I’m sure you have heard of Twitter by now.  Are you utilizing it?  If not, why not?  Sure there have been a few “gurus” bashing it lately basically saying it is a waste of time but they are only trying to game the system.  Their only interest in Twitter is using it to make money, which can be done but not the way they are trying to do it.

Twitter is about socializing and networking.  If the only thing you are doing is sending out sales hyped tweets then of course your followers are going to either ignore you or unfollow you altogether.  You can make sales on Twitter but it takes a different mindset.

Now for some tips or basically a little review of Twitter related products.

I read my “tweets” with TwitterFox, a firefox browser plugin.  There are many other ways to read and post tweets, TweetDeck is very popular but I personally didn’t care for it.  I did like Twhirl but dropped it in favor of TwitterFox.  Those are the only Twitter readers I have experience with but I may try out more in the future and give an updated review then.

I’ll do a post about Twitter marketing in the future, for now you should start an account if you don’t have one already and get used to how Twitter works.  Twitter is free so jump on in.  Don’t forget to follow Newbie Profits, especially if you haven’t subscribed to the RSS feed.  I just created this account so there is not much history.  I decided it would be best to keep my personal account separate from my “business” accounts (ie - creating new Twitter accounts for each of my blogs).

If you have a blog of your own be sure to grab a free copy of the Tweet My Blog plugin.  You can also get a cool ribbon banner made for your blog at QuickRibbon.com - I just added one here at NewbieProfits.  You can also get free Twitter backgrounds or create your own.

Here is a great quick tutorial on how to make a ribbon banner at the site.  It only takes a few minutes and is so easy that even a newbie can do it

The method’s he lists are very good.   However I feel he missed a very important one and that is to blog about something that is “hot” on Google trends.  Those items are what Google is actively seeking for fresh content on because so many people are searching for them.  I have had a new blog indexed in minutes using that technique.

You will want to have a big ping list for your blog, I use the list over at Pingler.com then once you post you will want to do a quick Bookmarking Demon (BMD) run.  If you do not own BMD yet you can use a site like SocialMarker.com to bookmark a bunch of sites.  It isn’t as good as BMD but when you are just starting out and don’t have a great deal of money to buy tools take advantage of the freebies.

Since I have mentioned blogging about Google trends I will point out that trends blogging is a great way to get your feet wet in the make money online niche.  You are basically blogging the news, very easy to do and no worries about writer’s block because the news is constantly changing and with 100 “hot” items every hour there is always something you can write a quick 300 words about.

If you are interested you can check  out CurrentEventProfits.com and purchase the videos on how to make quick money as a trends blogger.   Be warned though that while adsense is quick and easy to get set up on a website, “smart pricing” is a real issue for trends blogs.  I would use another form of monetization, such as Clickbank.  I’ll address smart pricing in a future post.  It isn’t as big an issue for newbies but once you start building sites it is something you will want to understand more about.

A few years ago there was a quick easy to set up system for sale via Clickbank that went by the name “Dave’s Cool Little Website”.  It was $97 if I remember correctly.  All you had to do was buy a domain, set the servers to what you were given, then log into your account and plug in some easy information such as your Clickbank ID.

It was very simple and easy to get up and running.  There were no hosting fees ever, all you had to pay for from there on out was the yearly domain renewal (about $10).  The sites were good looking and had lots of features that were supposed to keep them fresh.  Making money would be gloriously easy, just promote your URL and enjoy the profit.

It was simple and easy for awhile.  However google has since deindexed the sites.  That has basically turned them into cyber waste, at least in their current form.  Google is king of the internet search world and if your site is not listed in Google your paychecks will be small.

Now I have the option of turning EasyAuctionDeals.com into a different site, perhaps a blog about auctions, but doing so changes the dynamic of what I had actually signed up for when I purchased the site.  If I pull the domain and use it for a different purpose I have to pay a hosting fee, which even though it isn’t terribly expensive it’s still  something I had never expected to pay.

The hosting fee isn’t an issue for me because I actually pay for a reseller hosting account.   (I own multiple websites at this point in the game.)  However if I was a newbie and had only budgeted the initial fee and yearly domain cost into the equation then I would probably feel rather ticked off by the turn of events.

That is the lesson I learned about turnkey sites and why I avoid them now unless I have the ability to change certain key elements of the site.  Turnkey sites that are all the same run into major problems in the search engines and will be penalized.  They are cheap though and can make money if you change them a bit so they aren’t exact copies.

Note: While this is like a review of the “cool little website” program the sites are no longer for sale by the creator.  I am not trying one of those reverse psychology sales tricks to get you to buy the program, even if it was still for sale I would not link to it.

Ken Evoy’s SBI minions have come out in force over her post, which in turn has brought out the people who are calling them on the carpet, not only over their comments but the whole SBI “business”  in general.

This is the perfect example to kick off this blog.  At the end of this post I will be linking to quite a few of the counter arguments of why SBI is not worth the money.  Read them all.  Pay close attention to what the big boy bloggers like Vic and Griz have to say.   Not only can you learn how to read between the lines of what is said but also learn to notice what is NOT said on sales letters.  Sometimes what is not said should be the real red flag!

My personal opinion is that while SBI is not an outright scam you should avoid it just the same.  The cost for the program is outrageous for what you get.  You will get a much better site, with full control, much cheaper by either creating it yourself or by hiring someone to create it for you.  You can get sites created very cheaply these days.   Take a look at how cheaply some sites sell for over at Digital Point Forums.  You can buy lots of sites for the $300 you would shell out for just one SBI site.  And that $300 is the basic price, you will get tagged for more if you want bonus features.

I am sure some people have made money with SBI.  However I am also sure those same people would have made a lot more money if they had used a different system.
